I have located you in a town,
the name of which I can’t pronounce,
the spelling of which I can’t remember.
I wrote it in a sandwich last Thursday,
its name scrawled between white sheets
of bread in communist red Ketchup.
But martins migrating south stole it from me.
They gurgled and chortled, hurtling along:
en masse. I have never felt so alone.
The town, whose name I searched for in books,
is located on top of a mountain that sits
on a dish in the southernmost of places.
I have no way of asking directions,
so I look to the little undulating needle
and follow the martins, who left their crumb-trail
