Background statement

In order to ensure a broad and balanced curriculum it is recommended that pupils be offered a modern language as part of the S1/S2 curriculum. Difficulties with learning a second language for a pupil with dyslexia are well documented. Many pupils experience difficulties in both French and German and some parents would prefer that their children were offered an alternative experience.

Issue 2 highlights five approaches taken by different secondary schools in dealing with parental requests.
